There are numerous CAA approved training providers, but only one that can offer trainers who, for 30 years, have contributed to and shaped the development of the international requirements. The Dangerous Goods Office boasts two of the most experienced ex regulatory staff in the world:
Geoff Leach: Geoff joined the CAA’s Dangerous Goods Office in 1990, becoming the Deputy Head of the Office in 1993. In 2002 he became Head of the Office and was elected Chairman of the ICAO Dangerous Goods Panel (DGP) (which develops the international air transport requirements for the safe transport of dangerous goods) in 2007, having attended all previous meetings since 1992. He continues to attend DGP meetings on behalf of the Dangerous Goods Advisory Council of the US and Chairs the IATA Lithium Battery Workshops. He is also a DGSA. In 2016 Geoff received the George L. Wilson Award, considered the highest form of recognition for an individual based on a lifetime of achievement in advancing the cause of safety in the transport of dangerous goods.
Ross McLachlan: Ross joined the CAA’s Dangerous Goods Office in 1993, becoming the Deputy Head of the Office in 2002. Ross became the ICAO DGP member nominated by the UK in 2014 and was also responsible, amongst many other things, for the oversight of the CAA Approved Dangerous Goods Training Scheme. He has been heavily involved in the development of the new ICAO Competency Based Training standards. He is also a DGSA.
